Returning Your Library Items

Library items may be returned through the Library’s external book chutes.  All returns will be quarantined for 72 hours.  When you return items, changes to your Library account may take a bit longer to update while our staff safely handle and process your returns. Overdue fines have been temporarily suspended on items due after March 14.  If you have any questions about your account, please call us at 905-579-6111.

Library Take-Out Service

Durham Region is currently in the Red Zone level of Ontario’s COVID-19 Response Framework, and we understand that you might feel uncomfortable spending time in the Library.  Rest assured, we are pleased to continue offering Library Take-Out services, so you can still enjoy books, DVDs, music, magazines, and more!

This service is available at all Oshawa Public Libraries branches during regular business hours.

For more information on take-out services, visit here.

In-Person Library Services

Public computer access and printing services are available in the Library.  Wi-Fi is also available for customers who bring their own devices.

Customers may browse the Library’s collections and use the Library for studying and reading following physical distancing recommendations from the Durham Region Health Department. Please note that the MakerSpace at the McLaughlin Branch will not be open to the public at this time.

As a courtesy to others wishing to use the Library, we ask that visits are kept to one hour or less.

Health and Safety

The health and safety of our community and staff is our top priority.  When you visit us, we ask that you follow recommendations from Durham Region Health Department on how to protect yourself and others, and reduce the spread of COVID-19:

  • Physical distancing, proper hand hygiene, and wearing a non-medical face mask or face covering is required while in the library.
  • Customers with medical exemptions are required to wear at least a face shield to enter the library.  Our online and take-out services are always available for your convenience.
  • For our shared health and safety, the Library has increased cleaning of high touch items and surfaces such as self-checkout machines, computer equipment, printers, elevator buttons, handles, and washrooms, etc.
  • To reduce the handling of Library materials, staff will be available to assist you.
  • Remember:  Wash or sanitize your hands frequently, cough or sneeze into your elbow, avoid touching your face, and practice physical distancing.
  • Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms must postpone their library visit and call Telehealth or their health care provider to be assessed.
