Registration & Licensing



Business Registration Online is a one stop, online, self-serve application that allows you to register for a Business Number, as well as for four program accounts: Corporation income tax, GST/HST, Payroll and Import/Export.





Canada Business Ontario provides background information and advice to entrepreneurs interested in developing businesses in Ontario. CBO has many Info Guides on business start-up topics, market research, and other useful information for entrepreneurs just starting out. Available in thirteen different languages.





Searchable database of the permits and licenses at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels that may be required to start and grow your business.





The purpose of the "Guide to Federal Incorporation: Helping small businesses incorporate federally" is to give the reader a general overview of federal corporate law under the Canada Business Corporations Act (CBCA). It provides the basic knowledge and tools that business owners and operators need to incorporate and operate a corporation under the federal corporate law.





MERX Canadian Public Tenders is an easy, fast and efficient prospecting tool to help your business grow. New opportunities are listed daily from all levels of government including the Federal and Provincial Governments as well as the MASH sector (Municipal, Academic, School Boards and Hospitals) from across Canada. Census Data



The 2006 Census offers a wide range of analysis and data according to topics that paint a portrait of Canada. Includes statistics on income and earnings, labour market data, migration and mobility and other business related areas.





E-STAT is an online learning tool specially designed for use by the educational community. With E-STAT you can generate dynamic tables, customize graphs and maps using Statistics Canada's Census of Population and socioeconomic data.





The US Census Bureau offers a wide range of demographic, economic and social information.


Economic Outlooks



This government web site gives statistical information on the economy split into six subject areas.





These guides are prepared by US Embassy Staff annually and contain information on the business and economic situation of foreign countries and the political climate as it affects business.





This site gives access to information on past and upcoming meetings, publications, research and news coverage. This can give a sense of future policy decisions at the world level.





This site offers a quick look at the US economy from a business standpoint. Each section has links to additional information on the different aspects of the economy for in-depth data.





This briefing, produced by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) gives economic analysis and projections for a number of countries as well as at the global level. There is access to tables and figures for many types of data.


Canadian Companies



This web site contains all filings by Canadian public companies. You can search the database, or go straight to company profiles. You can also look at the most recent filings.





This database lets you search by corporate name or incorporation number for those companies that are incorporated at the federal level. Basic information on each corporation is given.





This site includes sections for Private Companies, Tech Companies, and Largest Employers among others.





This site provides lists of the companies (with geographical locations) that import goods into Canada . You can search by a specific product, and identify the top importers from any Canadian city or foreign country.





This web site covers North American manufacturers and requires registration to use, but is free. Search by product, company name or brand name.





First published in 1900 as Canada’s original industrial directory, Canadian Trade Index has grown to become Canada’s leading online industrial sourcing tool for manufacturers, exporters, distributors and service companies.


Local Business Directories



A searchable database of business in Oshawa developed by the City of Oshawa Economic Development Services department.





A searchable database of businesses in the Durham Region maintained by the Region of Durham Planning and Economic Development Department.





This site is a searchable listing of business belonging to the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce. It can be searched by Company Name, NAICS code, Location etc, or browsed by business category.


US Business Directories



This new directory from Business Week allows you to search for US companies by service type and region combined to get the right company in the right area for you.





This site lets you look at basic information on private and public companies in the United States , and you may purchase more comprehensive reports, such as credit reports, easily.





Like the Canadian site, this lets you look up filings by company. There are also some specialized searches that are available.


E-Commerce



These guides are designed to help you navigate through federal and provincial government programs services and regulations that may apply to entrepreneurs.
